The start of the new school year brings excitement and optimism. This is the 15th opening of Cawley Middle School. It is evident that the students, staff, parents and Hooksett community are all an integral part of a child’s education. Everyone plays a valuable part in providing students with a high quality education and supporting each child’s “social, emotional and academic growth.”
All staff members have high expectations and believe that all students can learn. This year, teachers will focus on challenging students with “varied and rigorous learning experiences that enable students to think critically, work collaboratively, communicate effectively and act with integrity.” The goal is to create a personalized learning environment for each student. Doing so will provide students with the opportunity to learn in unique ways that meet their learning style.
This year Cawley will begin using a new report card to measure student learning. The report card will now include learning competencies, which provides parents with a more accurate understanding of their child’s learning. Numerical and letter grades will still be on the report card and honor roll certificates will still be awarded. Report cards will be issued in November, March and June as the school reporting system will now be based on trimesters. Parent informational nights will be planned after the school year begins.
Please encourage your child to make the most of their middle school experience by getting involved in the many co-curricular opportunities. Students can participate in athletics, clubs, and the fine arts. Middle school provides students with a place to find their niche, academically and socially, through co-curricular experiences. Announcements for information on signing up for athletics, clubs, and fine arts will begin on the first day of school.
In addition, announcements and information can be found on the school’s website at http://cawley.sau15.net. The website, Twitter and Facebook are primarily used as the method for disseminating announcements and information. The website also has access to PowerSchool, teachers’ e-mail addresses and websites. All teachers’ websites are updated weekly with upcoming assignments, tests and information about their class. Please make sure that your e-mail address is updated on your child’s emergency form. The school uses this address to e-mail parents important information regularly through the Bright Arrow Notification System.
Please contact me by e-mail, telephone or to set up a meeting if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas that will assist in your child’s positive middle school experience at anytime during the school year. I look forward to communicating with you throughout the school year.
