Notes from the School Nurse

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! My name is Charlene McCarron, RN, BSN, NCSN, and I am starting my 6th year as the school nurse at David R. Cawley Middle School. Go Hawks! I am eager and excited to get to know you and your children.

Please know that keeping your children healthy and safe is very important to all of us at David R. Cawley Middle School, and we are always here for you and your family, so please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to the school.

  • All incoming 6th-grade students must have a complete physical on file done on or after September 1, 2023.

  • Students need an updated physical to participate in school sports.

  • Students entering 7th grade need to have a Tdap vaccine on file with the school nurse. Please see the NH immunization requirements: 2024-2025 NH School Immunization Requirements (PDF)

  • Remember to bring new and updated medical orders from your child’s PCP for any medications that your child will take during the school day. A physician order form is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/174hmxnHnHnqgoRZ6M_AICHlmQaHm2OQjpJOK1tr-fmE/edit

  • A parent or guardian must bring all medications to school in their original containers.

  • Allergy and asthma medications such as inhalers, Benadryl, and Epi-Pens need to have an updated physician order and emergency care plan on file with the school nurse. Parents can bring these medical supplies to the school nurse.

  • We encourage all students to have a water bottle with them daily at school.

  • Water bottle filling stations are available throughout the school.
