Solar Eclipse – April 8

On April 8, 2024 from approximately 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm there will be a solar eclipse. Science teachers and the Advanced Learning Program teacher are planning activities for their students that relate to the solar eclipse.

Students at Cawley will be in class at the start of the eclipse and dismissed at their regular time at 2:30 pm. After dismissal students will be on the school bus or traveling home by car or at extracurricular activities during the remainder of the eclipse. Any afterschool activities that are outside will either be relocated inside or canceled for the day.

The Hooksett PTA has generously donated eclipse glasses for all students at Cawley. The only safe way to view the solar eclipse is through ISO 12312-2 certified solar filters such as eclipse glasses or hand held viewers. These glasses will be passed out to all students before the eclipse begins. Students should wear the glasses on their way home from school.

Please remind your children to not look directly at the sun. Staff members will also review safety precautions with the students before and during the eclipse. This will be a great authentic and multigenerational learning experience for our students and staff. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
